Lewis, Alligood & Associates has been appraising commercial properties since its inception in 1972. The Raleigh-based firm services North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. In addition to commercial appraisals, Lewis Alligood & Associates provides other services including estate appraisals, equitable distribution, retrospective appraisals, eminent domain, tax appeal and expert witness testimony.
Size
Lewis, Alligood & Associates is a small organization with seven employees. The size of our operation allows Partnership involvement on all engagements. Partners are either completing the entire reports, or are extremely hands on with each appraisal. Each report goes through an internal review process before delivery. This ensures a top quality product every time.

Meet the Partners
David Lewis has over 30 years of experience in the real estate appraisal industry. David started his career as an Associate with Swayn G. Hamlet and Associates of Fayetteville, where he worked on residential appraisals for estate and equitable distribution purposes. In 1994, he moved to Raleigh and began working for Dickinson Appraisal & Realty Company. David became a Partner of the firm in 2000 (rebranded to Dickinson, Lewis & Associates), where he has continued to serve as the Managing Appraiser and Broker in Charge over the last two decades.
David earned his B.A. in Political Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds Certified General Appraisal licenses in the states of North Carolina and Virginia. David is a General Associate Member of the Appraisal Institute and an MAI Candidate. In addition, David holds a North Carolina Real Estate license.
Thomas Alligood has been a member of the Dickinson, Lewis & Associates team since January of 2021. In 2023, he became a Partner and the firm rebranded to Lewis, Alligood & Associates. Prior to joining the firm, Thomas worked as an appraiser at CBRE in Raleigh. Throughout his career, Thomas has provided appraisals to a wide variety of clients including commercial banks, life insurance companies, private investors, developers, REITs and attorneys. His experience includes complex valuations of multifamily, retail, office, industrial, self-storage and specialty commercial properties.
Thomas earned his B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Kenan Flagler Business School. He holds a Certified General Appraisal licenses in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. In addition, Thomas holds a North Carolina Real Estate license.
